The Coventry Music Scene!

Here's a brief bit about me. I played bass in Cov bands in the late 70's. First it was the Editors, then the X-certs and finally I.  After a brief session stint in London, I became a sound engineer and then producer, having hits with Betty Boo and Definition of Sound. By this time I was heartily sick of the music industry and now am very happy making radio programmes. However, I don't want to forget what got me this far, hence these pages came into being.

People tend to think of the Specials and Two Tone when it comes to Coventry. Others remember Lieutenant Pigeon and maybe King, while some oldies might mention Frank Ifield (born in Cov, but is to all intents Australian) and possibly Vince Hill. So by way of restoring the balance, this is my tribute to anyone who has picked up an instrument and made a noise in or around the city of Coventry......

These pages are under heavy construction. I've divided them up, the first lot covering on the Coventry scene pre 1979, ie: pre Specials/Two Tone, the next covering post Specials/Two-Tone, then 1983 onwards and finally new sections covering bands that came from towns outside Coventry.

This is a huge site, full of info on Coventry bands, particularly in the 60s and 70s

Tim James - member of many bands in Coventry. His site has lots of info, pictures and stories that capture the zeitgeist- and most importantly - HE WAS THERE!!

This is Pete Chambers, Coventy's top Cov expert, and BBC Radio Presenter. Buy his books!! Also, how come Coventry University haven't given him an Honorary Doctorate for services to city culture? If there's one going, i'll settle for an M.A as well., ok?

Epilogue

After leaving Coventry I hit the "big time", and entered the music business. After 12 or so years of fun, heartache, lies and boredom, I was relieved to get out. I remember my days in Coventry with far more fondness than those in the music business, because the only thing we cared about was music - business didn't really come into it, apart from who got the pints in.
