My Bicycle Rides - Past and Future
My Bicycle Rides - Past and Future
Lands End to John O'Groats - March to April 2000
For many years I planned to give myself a birthday present of a bicycle ride spanning the length of Britain. When I hit 40, it seemed the perfect time to do it, and it was the experience of a life time.
In 1999, my nephew, Oliver "Olly" Cook died from soft tissue cancer. He was 21. In 1990, my dad died of lung cancer. He was a non-smoker. These events led me to decide to use this bike ride to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief Macmillan Cancer Relief is a UK charity, supporting people with cancer and their families with specialist information, treatment and care. All of their work is funded by donations from the general public. Visit their website to find out more. The bike ride I did raised just over £2000.

Durness to Dover - The "opposite diagonal" - June 2001
This time I was riding to raise money for musical instruments, my kid's school needed. I didn't raise as much as the cancer ride - £600 - but that was sufficient to buy 5 keyboards, so mission accomplished!

London to Edinburgh - 450 miles in 3 days - 2002
It was my first experience of riding in a team, plus the luxury of a support vehicle. The ride was to raise money for Homerton Hospital

York to London - 200 miles in 1 day - March 27th 2004
An arduous but lovely ride. Riding though Lincolnshire at night with just the moon and stars for company was an experience I’ll never forget. Peterborough was a rude awakening.

Lands End to John O'Groats to Durness to Dover - 1800 miles - Sept 2006
The big one. This ride was high on mileage, but low on soul. Lots of nice moments, but it got rather mechanical by the end. Still....I did it.
